Dandelions (Taraxacum officinale) are native to Eurasia and North America and are common place worldwide. The plant is entirely edible. Each single flower head is called a floret.
Dandelions are thought to have evolved about 30 million years ago in Eurasia. Dandelions have been used as a food and as herb for most of recorded history. The Egyprians, Greeks, Romans and Chinese have all used the Dandelion in traditional medicine for thousands of years.
According to the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association, Dandelions were first brought to mainland America for their medicinal properties.
